Yannick Li-Ah-Kane, Sculptor

It’s in 2006 that I really become interested in sculpting.

I began making sculptures out of granite in Brittany. Although details were difficult to render in granite, the shapes were there.  I then worked on hard limestones whose colours fascinated me and whose hardness allows great detail.

After having won the first prize for my very first symposium, I decided to follow a course in Carrara (Italy) in order to learn new techniques and to try out the famous “blanco di Carrara”. And I was under the spell… and I unhesitatingly took on blocks of several tones.

My approach:

If you look at my sculpture, you will see that they are stylistically different, some are detailed and realistic, others are more evocative, refined and simple.

(Of course, the stone will often play an important role on the future shape and style).

“My technique is to first understand the shape, to master the art of detail so as to better do away with them."
